Haimeng Yang, a resident of Apex, North Carolina, and a beloved instructor at Initiative Programs passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. He was 18 years old at the time of his death. He was announced dead through a social media publication that read “We mourn the loss of our dear member Ocean Yang, a beautiful soul who touched our lives in ways words can’t fully capture.”
Who was Ocean Yang?
Haimeng Ocean Yang was born on January 13, 2006. Ocean joined the Initiative Programs family in 2022 and a became a cherished member. During his time with Initiative Programs, he taught several highly popular classes, ranging from SAT Prep to Economics to Computer Science. His impact on his students was profound, as he consistently encouraged and motivated them on their academic journeys.
As the Chief Technology Officer for three terms, Ocean approached the role with remarkable dedication, creativity, and care. He was a true problem solver, always bringing innovative ideas to the table. No matter how long a meeting stretched, he found ways to make it more bearable, lightening the mood with his humor and positive energy. Beyond his immense intelligence and artistic talents, Ocean was a steadfast friend and supporter.
His infectious energy and bright spirit were felt by everyone around him. He was loved and cherished by his mother, father, older brother Raymond, and the Yang family. What a truly remarkable person he was – talented, deeply caring, and always bringing a sense of calm and light into every space he entered. He was a member of UNC Achordants, an all-male cappella group.
