What was Molly Deshotels cause of death?
A Lafayette lady was killed in an early Sunday morning car accident at the junction of Bertrand Drive and West Congress Street. Following reports of an accident, Lafayette Police arrived on the scene at around 3:50 a.m. on October 20, 2024. When police arrived, they found that one of the drivers, Molly Deshotels, 33, of Lafayette, had perished in the collision.
The preliminary inquiry states that Deshotels failed to stop at a red light at the junction of Bertrand Drive and West Congress Street while she was travelling north. Her car struck a car with a yellow traffic signal that was heading west on West Congress. Deshotels’ car was struck on the driver’s side. The second car’s driver was sent to Ochsner University Hospital and Clinic after suffering injuries.
The results of a voluntary blood sample that was taken from the other driver, who showed no signs of impairment, are still pending. The Traffic Unit of the Lafayette Police Department is still investigating the collision. Officers are examining footage from local security cameras in an effort to piece together the circumstances leading up to the deadly collision.
